Based on a true story, Hive tells the story of Fahrije (Yllka Gashi), whose husband was one of thousands to go missing during the Kosovo war of the late nineties. To provide for her family, Fahrije joins with other widows from her village to produce and sell honey and ajvar – but faces hostility from the patriarchal forces that hold sway over rural life. An earthy, committed drama about the true price of independence, anchored by a fierce central performance from feature film debutant Gashi.
