A tender family drama about the close but pained relationship between a mother and her adolescent son. Divorcee Zinaida has for years been singlehandedly raising Boris, an intelligent but highly selfish young man. When Viktor enters Zinaida’s life, Boris is unable to accept him. Questions of lifestyle, class, and generational tension are explored through this portrait of maternal and filial aspirations. A highly emotive and intimate depiction of a family learning to reorient itself.
