Directed by Elvin Adigozel • 2025 • Azerbaijan
Azerbaijani writer-director Elvin Adigozel confirms his status as a major talent in Caucasian filmmaking with this darkly funny tale of friendship and artistic ambition gone wrong. Wedding musicians in rural Azerbaijan, Babek and Sahil (Kamil Nazim and Jahangir Malikov) have been inseparable since childhood. But tensions begin to fester as Babek is drawn to both dreams of showbiz glory in the capital Baku and the allure of his new partner Zarif (Kamala Israfilova), and long-suffering Sahil discovers there are limits to his loyalty. Drawing on his experiences travelling the provincial outposts of his homeland, Adigozel locates a universal story of thwarted ambition in a quintessentially Azerbaijani setting, capturing village life in all its tragicomic variety in exquisite long takes.
