Over more than 20 years of travel across the former Soviet Union, Canadian photographer Christopher Herwig has painstakingly documented the humble bus stop. From Ukraine to Uzbekistan, the bus stop provided local architects with a canvas for individual creativity and local flavour in the face of centralised state control. Drawing on his series of best-selling photography books and working with Danish documentarian Kristoffer Hegnsvad, Soviet Bus Stops follows Herwig as he investigates the hidden history behind these miniature architectural marvels and races to preserve them as they fall foul to neglect and historical revisionism.
