Two of Poland’s cultural titans join forces as veteran auteur Agnieszka Holland adapts Nobel laureate Olga Tokarczuk’s Drive Your Plough Over the Bones of the Dad into a propulsive eco-thriller. Agnieszka Mandat is magnetic as Duszejko, an animal rights activist living alone in a mountain village populated by hunting enthusiasts. When local men start succumbing to a mysterious assailant, Duszejko finds herself at the centre of a web of suspicion and conspiracy. Making fine use of the rough beauty of the Polish borderlands and shot through with expertly-controlled tension, Spoor marked a return to form for Holland, as well as a return to her homeland after years spent on European productions.
