Bread and Salt

Directed by Damian Kocur • 2022 • Poland
Damian Kocur’s feature debut confirms his reputation as one of Poland’s most promising filmmakers. Talented pianist Tymek (Tymoteusz Bies) returns to his provincial hometown during his vacation from the Warsaw Academy of Music, and quickly falls back in with his old gang. When tensions begin to mount between the local Polish youth and the Arab refugees who run a popular kebab joint, Tymek’s loyalties are tested. Based on real events and starring non-professional actors, Bread and Salt is a slow-burn drama reminiscent of Larry Clark and Gus Van Sant that ponders the limits of solidarity and asks how we define difference.
