Klassiki Picks is our series of curated watchlists personally selected for our subscribers by celebrated filmmakers, writers, and actors. We’re delighted to welcome Stephen and Timothy Quay to the hot seat for the this latest edition. The Quay Brothers are among the most influential animators working today, whose career spans five decades and has seen them craft features, shorts, music videos, adverts, and installations. Inspired by Eastern European artists including Walerian Borowczyk and Jan Švankmajer, the duo developed a signature style combining stop motion and live action, surrealist flourishes, and an eye for the macabre. Their acclaimed films include Street of Crocodiles (1986) and The Piano Tuner of Earthquakes (2005). Their new feature film is Sanatorium Under the Sign of the Hourglass, inspired by the writings of Bruno Schulz.
